Adult Attachment Interview Training Institute 2 week Training Program

  1. The NSW Faculty of Psychotherapy in conjunction with Tresillian present - The Adult Attachment Interview (AAI) Training Institute  – Intensive 2 week training program – 4-15 December 2017 – Brain and Mind Centre, Camperdown

The Adult Attachment Interview Training Institute offers training over an intensive two week period, with attendance every day, teaching the background and coding of the gold standard assessment of adult attachment state of mind according to the coding developed by Mary Main et al. It has been used extensively in research including applied clinical research in psychotherapy and child and family metal health settings and in longitudinal research about how early experience impacts on personality and personal development. The interview provides rich life narratives of the speaker’s experiences of development, loss and trauma and their reflections on it.

Associate Professor Loyola McLean has now qualified as the first Australian trainer in the instrument and will be co-facilitating the training program with Dr Sonia Gojman de Millan PhD.

All queries relating to the program should be directed to A/Prof. McLean at Loyola.mclean@sydney.edu.au

In the first week of November you will be sent a copy of the AAI protocol and other materials in
preparation for the training.
Upon receiving your AAI protocol, you are asked to conduct an Adult Attachment Interview with
someone (not a client) and be interviewed yourself by a friend. If at all possible, please transcribe
the interview that you give. This is because only your own transcription will allow you to fully
“hear” and review your work. More detailed instructions regarding how to transcribe will be sent
with the materials.
The interview which is administered to you does not need to be conducted by a professional, and
does not need to be transcribed. A friend can read you the questions. The experience of having
been interviewed is, however, vital to your understanding of the method.
