Applications are invited from suitably qualified mental health practitioners for the ANZAP Diploma in Adult Psychotherapy commencing in March 2011 in Sydney.
ANZAP has run courses successfully in Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart, Perth, Canberra, Townsville and New Zealand over the last twenty years.
The course is provided by an experienced psychoanalytically trained multidisciplinary faculty with additional invited specialist lecturers from time to time.
- This is a three-year part time course which prepares and develops candidates for the practice of Intensive Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy.
- The course is composed of three main strands facilitating the growth and development of practicing therapist. 1) A theoretical strand of interactive seminars for which extensive reading material is provided on individual CD’s 2) A clinical strand involving supervision in an individual and small peer group context. Supervision is provided by using each candidates audio-taped sessions which allows for a microanalytic approach to the therapeutic process. 3) Six Saturday morning seminars, an annual retreat and the annual conference complement the course structure with a variety of clinical and theoretical presentations by experts in the field.
- Personal Therapy is mandatory – part of which should be concurrent with the course.
- The Conversational Model is the predominant model taught. It an integrated model based in a psychology of human relatedness. This is a well researched model for the treatment for Personality Disorders with outcome studies published both in Australia and internationally. This model was developed by Russell Meares in collaboration with the late Robert Hobson and incorporates infant research, developmental theory, trauma theory, linguistics, neurophysiology, memory research, with a Psychology of Self. Comparison with other psychoanalytic models is provided.
- An orientation seminar over three hours will be presented in October 2010. All interested persons are invited free of cost. Details will be available nearer to the date.
