Dancing with Death Understanding the Psychodynamics of Perversion

 

The Psychanalytic Psychotherapy Association of Australia presents "DANCING WITH DEATH: Understanding the Psychodynamics of Perversion".
A one day conference on June 8th at the Australian National Maritime Museum Darling Harbour


I am writing to you in my capacity as Administrative Officer with the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Association of Australasia (PPAA), a federated body formed in 1980 and composed of member organisation from Australian States and New Zealand.  The PPAA will host its inaugural Conference in Sydney this year and we are pleased to announce that Dr Estela Welldon (UK) and Dr Timothy Keogh (Sydney) will be our guest speakers for this event. 

Estela Welldon is the Founder and Honorary Elected President for Life of the International Association for Forensic Psychotherapy.  She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, an Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist in Psychotherapy at the Tavistock and Portman Clinics, a senior member of the British Association for Psychotherapy, a member of the American Group Analysis, the International Association of Group Psychotherapy and a member of the Confederation of British Psychotherapists.  In 1997 she was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Sciences by Oxford Brookes University for her contributions to the field of forensic psychotherapy.

Timothy Keogh PhD, is currently in private practice in Sydney, NSW as a psychoanalyst and a forensic psychologist.   Previously, he held posts as Statewide Director of Inmate Services and Programs with the New South Wales Department of Corrective Services and Director of Psychological Services and Programs in the NSW Department of Juvenile Justice.  He has authored and co-authored a number articles and chapters on offending and sex offending and is the author of “The Internal World of the juvenile sex offender: Through a glass darkly and then face to face” (Karnac, 2012).

 

Our final session for this Conference will be a Panel discussion which will include Estela Welldon, Timothy Keogh and Ms Pamela Nathan.

 

Pamela Nathan is a psychoanalytic psychotherapist and clinical and forensic psychologist in private practice in Kew, Melbourne.  Pamela has worked as a psychologist at Forensicare (including H M Pentridge) for seven years (1994-2001) with high risk violent inmates and parolees. She established a community/prison treatment and research program for female sex offenders.  She was Area Senior Psychologist at RMH/IWAMHS (2001-6) and consultant and researcher until 2012. Currently, she is Director of an Aboriginal program (CASSE) on trauma and violence in central Australia and previously, has written three sociological books on Aboriginal health.  She has written many psychological reports for parole boards and all courts, co-authored published psychological papers on male and female sex offending and forensic interventions in the public mental health sector and authored published papers in forensic psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
