CERTIFICATE COURSE IN PSYCHOANALYTIC UNDERSTANDING OF CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS
The Certificate Course (Level 1) is a Foundational level of learning in which the practice of observing infantile states of mind and reading about psychoanalytic principles are introduced. LEVEL 2
COURSE IN PSYCHOANALYTIC CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PSYCHOTHERAPY
The Course in child and adolescent psychotherapy (Level 2) introduces the student to the practice of child and adolescent psychotherapy. LEVEL 3
CLINICAL TRAINING IN PSYCHOANALYTIC CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PSYCHOTHERAPY
Clinical Training in child and adolescent psychotherapy (Level 3) builds upon the level 2 course and begins the formal training in child and adolescent therapy. Clinical supervision and discussion both individually and in small groups will begin.
Students will be required to be undertaking clinical work with children and/or adolescents. Students in level 1 and 2 are expected to be undertaking their own personal therapy
Units 9 to 12 must be successfully completed to advance to the final year of training
LEVEL 4
CLINICAL TRAINING IN PSYCHOANALYTIC CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PSYCHOTHERAPY
Clinical Training – 2 (Level 4) is a consolidation and elaboration of level 3. INDIVIDUAL TRAINING UNIT DETAILS
Units 1 and 2 Infant Observation
This seminar can be taken as a stand-alone experience. It is a 1-year course designed to help anyone working in any capacity with children, adolescents and their families. It is also the core course for those who are interested in becoming psychotherapists.
Infant Observation is an intense experience in which the student learns directly about very young states of mind.
Students are required to present detailed written descriptions of weekly observations of an infant at home interacting with their caretaker. These observations are then discussed in a small group with an experienced seminar leader. The aim is to develop skills in detailed observation, disciplined describing, learning how to establish observer boundaries, exploring the conscious and unconscious meanings of behaviour, and thinking about the growth of the mind and personality.
To integrate and complete the course, students submit a 5000 word paper at the completion of the observation. This is required if the student wishes these units to be credited towards the Certificate Course.
