Isla Lonie Memorial Lecture

The originality and creativity of D. W. Winnicott, his emphasis on the spontaneous gesture and the search for ‘the real,’ as well as his concept of ‘the good enough mother’, have radically altered the way in which we deal with those patients who come to us and who co- exist in a state of ‘primary undifferentiated being.’

Dr Anne-Marie Swan is a psychiatrist and psychoanalytic psychotherapist working in private practice in Glebe, Sydney. She also works in the public sector as a supervisor of psychiatry registrars at Concord and Prince of Wales Hospitals in Sydney. Anne-Marie has a background in education in teaching, consultancy and curriculum development and is currently involved in psychotherapy education to psychiatrists and psychiatric registrars with the Higher Education and Training Institute at the NSW Institute of Psychiatry. She is the Curriculum Co-ordinator of the Psychotherapies Education Association which provides Advanced Psychotherapy Training for RANZCP trainees in NSW and across Australia and teaches on the Faculty. She is a Member of the RANZCP Faculty of Psychotherapy.

Anne-Marie is the Immediate Past President of the New South Wales Institute of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and teaches in the NSWIPP Training Programme.

Anne-Marie has over 25 years’ experience in treating patients in psychotherapy at the severe end of the clinical spectrum and works with a canine co-therapist.
