Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Course

Sydney Institute for Psychoanalysis [SIP] is a branch of the Australian Psychoanalytic Society [APAS], and offers two outreach programs in 2019 - 2020.
1. PPC [Psychodynamic psychotherapy course].
‘Levels of listening’ will be the focus of attention in the PPC@SIP Course for 2019 and 2020.
Levels of listening will help clinicians to hear, understand and attend to different levels of communication with the patient.
Transference and counter transference experience will be explored as central for the clinician to attune herself to her patient, and to put her understanding into words, to share with the patient. Seminar readings are accessible and will topics to be explored at different depths, and access to a library and a PEPWEB subscription are available.
The course is appropriate for newcomers to psychodynamic practice as well as clinicians familiar with this way of working.
Each year the course is designed as a self contained CPD module, and continuation over two years will provided clinicians with an extended opportunity to develop their way of working.
Twenty-four seminars per year [six per term] will run from 7.00-9.30pm on Wednesday evenings in 2019. Each evening will provide two hour long seminars, with a discussion of reading in the first seminar, then half an hour for dinner and tea break, followed by discussion of a clinical presentation.
Annual fees are $2250 [+GST].
The course will commence on August 14th 2019.

2. Small Group Seminars & Consultation (SGSC)
These small groups explore the use of psychodynamic thinking in diverse areas, including clinical work with many types of patients (mother- infant, child, adolescent, couple, and adult).
Groups include, clinical reading groups, observational study groups and other small groups (inter-vision, and supervision) to facilitate the development of different perspectives.
Groups of 2-10 clinicians meet weekly or fortnightly in person or via video-conference with a Member of the Sydney Institute for Psychoanalysis.
These small group seminars may also be suitable for clinicians working interstate or in remote areas of Australia.
