The Sydney Institute for Psychoanalysis presents its EPIC Program for 2014

5.0 Creativity: How to Listen and Learn (This module will be presented subject to the level of interest.)

The module will explore ways of listening to one’s own creativity. Most humanly creative moments arrive unannounced; they are outside the control of our rational minds and are the product of our imagination and come from our unconscious.  Nowadays we have instant access to the libraries of the world and are bombarded daily with information from all parts of the globe.

In our educational systems too much time is dedicated to accumulating information and following other people’s minds, and too little time is spent listening to what we hear internally.

This experiential module will require a commitment to all sessions and to homework and will focus on free-associative writing.

Presenter: Maurice Whelan is a psychoanalyst with the Sydney Institute for psychoanalysis. He is author of “Mistress of Her own Thoughts: Ella Freeman Sharpe and the Practice of Psychoanalysis” (2000), “His Thoughts for the Twenty-first Century: In the Company of William Hazlitt” (2003), a novel, “Boat People” (2008) and two books of poetry, “The Lilac Bow” and “Excalibur's Return”.
