The Youth
Mental Health symposium, YMHO2,
begins on Friday 28 February with a half day of workshops on ‘Assessment and
management of youth substance misuse: Queensland Hot House Service’ and
‘Assessment and treatment of gender dysphoria in children and adolescents’.
This will be followed by a full day program on Saturday 1 March.
We have sought to include a broad range of
topics: Therapies (Mentalisation Based Therapy and Family Therapy), the
management of clinical problems commonly seen in youth mental health (sleep
disorders and substance use problems), highly specialised areas (gender
identity and transgender issues) and the all too frequently encountered
challenge of supporting young people with mental illness into meaningful
vocational pursuits.
We are very pleased to have the voices of
carers and consumers represented in the program.
We also welcome Professor Patrick McGorry,
Executive Director of Orygen Youth Health Research Centre and Professor of
Youth Mental Health at the University of Melbourne, who will speak on
‘Preventive strategies in emerging mental disorders in young people:
clinical staging and translational research.’
This event will be held on Friday 28 February
and Saturday 1 March 2014 at the Pullman
Brisbane King George Square.
